SLASHPLAY is Rebuilding — Here's Why

We want to be honest with you.

SLASHPLAY started as a simple idea: make game servers stupid-easy to spin up inside Discord. No config files, no port-forwarding nightmares, no credit card required to figure out if it even works. Just /play, pick your game, and go.

That idea still stands. What's changing is how we deliver it.

What's Happening Right Now

We are currently in the middle of a full reconstruction of SLASHPLAY — the platform, the infrastructure, and the way we think about the product. The website you're browsing right now is a snapshot of what we built. What comes next will be something better.

This isn't a pivot. It's a rebuild with purpose.

Why We're Rebuilding

Running a real-time game server platform is expensive. Every server spin-up, every active session, every idle minute costs us real money. For a while we absorbed those costs and optimized around the edges. But at some point the math stops working, and you have two choices: shut it down, or rebuild it smarter.

We chose to rebuild.

The goal is simple: restructure SLASHPLAY so that it costs less to run, so we can keep running it — and keep it accessible to the community that made it worth building in the first place.

That means rethinking how we provision servers, how we scale infrastructure, and how we price things in a way that's sustainable without pricing anyone out.

What This Means for You

  • SLASHPLAY isn't going anywhere. We are actively working on this.
  • The core experience — /play, instant servers, Discord-native — is staying. We're making it more reliable, not more complicated.
  • Pricing will be restructured to reflect what it actually costs to run things, but the goal is lower cost per session, not higher. We want more people to be able to use it, not fewer.
  • We're building the kind of product we'd want to use ourselves. If it's annoying or expensive or broken, we'd stop using it too.

We Owe This to the Community

Honestly? SLASHPLAY exists because of the people who tried it, stuck with it, shared it with their Discord servers, and told their friends. That community is real and it means something to us.

We're not rebuilding because we got bored. We're rebuilding because we care enough to do it right. The alternative — keeping things running in a way that slowly falls apart — isn't fair to anyone who's depending on it.

What's Coming

We're not ready to show everything yet, but we will be by June 1, 2026.

What we can say is that the new version of SLASHPLAY will be:

  • More stable — infrastructure built to scale properly, not just survive
  • More affordable — a pricing model that makes sense for casual players and communities alike
  • More honest — clear about what you're paying for and why

We'll share more as we get closer. No hype, no countdown clocks — just a better product when it's ready.

In the Meantime

If you've been using SLASHPLAY and something isn't working the way it should, reach out. We're listening. Our Discord community is still active and that's not changing.

Thank you for being here. See you on the other side.
